Thirty-One and Counting
by Mark Greenawalt

I'm writing this somewhere over the middle of the United States (actually 39,000 feet above Kansas) as I'm flying back from a New England tour of state capitals. My mission to take a picture of all 50 capital buildings has now been embellished with six more photos. The 900 mile journey began in Providence, Rhode Island and continued on to Boston, Massachusetts; Concord, New Hampshire; Montpelier, Vermont; Augusta, Maine; and ended in Hartford, Connecticut. The fall foliage spectacle was awe inspiring and at its peak throughout the trek. I was also able to steal some photo-op time in the lakes region of New Hampshire, the forest areas of Connecticut, and downtown Newport, Rhode Island. I owe a huge thanks to Jeff Clark of Lightolier for investing in my state capital project by providing room, board, and airfare (oh yeah, and also for giving me a tour of the Lightolier manufacturing facility.) Please visit my state capital webpage at www.futureclassx.com/capitals/usmap.htm

Public Art Exposure
by Mark Greenawalt

My fledgling career as a body painter has just gotten a boost in the arm with two "live" public body paintings at well publicized art shows here in the valley. The first took place at a venue in Tempe called Pompeii on October 28. This event was called Carnal Manifest and was sponsored by Alfadon.com.  This event included music (Front 242 and Nihil), a FIRE play by Flame-Chen, human suspension by Life Suspended, an interactive video machine by Isa Gordon, and several other artist's wares. My part was a live body painting during the evening on a model named Angie.  The painting included two snakes that wrapped around her body.  Check it out on my body painting page at http://members.home.net/classx/bodypaint/bodypaint.htmNight Moves magazine was on hand and will be writing an article on my work in an upcoming issue.  Also on hand was the lovely model Eden Rae who I was hoping to meet, but never had the opportunity.

The second event will be taking place on November 17th at the Nile Theater in Mesa (105 W Main). This event is called Culture of our Underground and will include over 20 artists displaying their work and music by Groovetribe, W.O.M.B, Hammertoes, and Modulation.  I will be one of two body painters at the show along with Jesse Jarrell. Come on out and watch us work!

Milestone Checked Off
by Mark Greenawalt

My Y2K New Year's resolution? To become a certified scuba diver.

In short, mission complete!  I completed my open water dive at Saguaro Lake here in Arizona where the good news was 79 degree water temperature and the bad news was 6' of visibility. This particular dive included four students from Oasis Divers and we reached a maximum depth of 45' under water. It was pretty mucky down there, but it was worth it. I'm now licensed to scuba dive in Honolulu while I'm out taking a picture of the Hawaii state capital building... The next milestone!

More Bullet Items
by Mark Greenawalt

-The latest music from Nashville country artist (and close personal friend), Dawna Bradford, is now for sale on her website mp3.com/dawna, just go buy it. You'll love it and I'll get a commission. I had the privilege of writing several of the songs, playing guitar and keyboards on several, shooting the cover photo, and the designing and artwork layout of the CD insert. Support original music and order this CD for only $7.99. You can listen to all of the songs first and if you really like it, buy two copies... They make great stocking stuffers.

-Each month in the year 2000, Future-Class X Publishing is giving away a free signed and numbered, limited edition art print of my pencil drawing entitled Mill's Barn .  To be placed in the drawing, all you have to do is sign the guestbook and you will be in the next month's drawing.  The winner of this month's drawing is Steve Arnold, a good friend of mine from high school.  Steve and I were in a couple of bands together through the years including NV and Nitekap.  He is a great drummer and an excellent artist and lives in State College, Pennsylvania.  Congrats Steve, I hope you like it!

Type at you next month!!!
