Welcome to the "Alwun House Exotic 2004" bodypainting webpage. These bodypaintings were part of the annual exotic art show held at the Alwun House in Phoenix, Arizona. The date of this year's event was Friday the 13th of February 2004. Just two weeks before this event, Janet Jackson's breast was exposed as part of a "wardrobe malfunction" at the Superbowl Halftime show. The following day the whole world was talking about it including the FCC who was investigating the incident and threatening to sue somebody. Janet was performing a song with Justin Timberlake and at the end of the song he tears off the right cup of her bustier exposing a star shaped medallion nipple ring. Although I agreed that it was an inappropriate setting for this stunt, I loved the costume, the theatrics, and the controversy. So much so that I incorporated the costume into my live bodypainting demonstration. Note that I used to have images of the superbowl pics on here, but received a cease and desist from the photographer's representative and immediately removed the images. These pictures were used for educational purposes and no monetary gain was received from their use. As part of my preparation for the project, I scoured the internet looking for pictures of Janet Jackson and the close-up of the nipple ring. By this time, there were several images that were on every news account of the Superbowl and the close-up was easily found on several sites. Note that I used to have images of the superbowl pics on here, but received a cease and desist from the photographer's representative and immediately removed the images. These pictures were used for educational purposes and no monetary gain was received from their use. My next mission was to find a model and luckily my first choice accepted the mission. Her name is Dale O. Dale has some natural features that resemble Janet Jackson and she went to professional hair and make-up artist Soncerea Richardson (Urban Roots Salon, Mesa) to add the finishing touches. This was the first time that Dale and I had ever worked together. Although she may have been a little apprehensive when we started painting in front of a crowd of about 30 on-lookers, by the time we finished the photoshoot she was strutting her stuff on stage in front of hundreds of attendees. To achieve the look of the black leather, I painted Dale with black liquid latex made by Deviant. Three layers of the latex was applied with a sponge brush and then the final gloss was enhanced by Deviant's Slick Polish. Next I used spirit gum to apply the rhinestones to the neck and left breast cup, noting that most rhinestones were clear except for two red ones (details). The red lace and silver nipple ring were painted on last using Totally Tattoo body paints from Badger Airbrush. I also added a few quick airbrushed hi-lites to the black latex to emulate the leather jacket that Janet was wearing. Here are a few shots from the event. Before the show started, I had completed another bodypainting. The model for this painting was Janet Morrison-Eisner who was also painted at last year's event with a phoenix firebird. For her artwork this year, Janet chose to have a painting by her favorite artist, Vincent Van Gogh, recreated on her upper torso. I chose the painting Starry Night, one of his most popular pieces and it proved to be very challenging, but only took a little over an hour and a half to complete. I again used Badger Airbrush's Totally Tattoo paints, some airbrushed on and all of the daubs of paint were applied with a sable brush. While I was painting Janet, she gave me the full run down on the life and times of Van Gogh. Here are two shots of her body painting. At the end of the night, there was one more volunteer that really wanted to be painted. I had packed up most of my stuff, but she was very enthusiastic about being painted. For her painting I tried an "off the cuff" painting of a sword with a winged serpent wrapped around it. Here are two shots of this painting. Also on display for this event, was a life casting of an actual model that was painted with the Janet Jackson outfit. The life casting was done by Byur Gullwing of www.lifecastaz.com and I did the "bodypainting". Click the image below to see the final product. That's ideal for a PTA bake sale, but we night-crawlers have barely swallowed a triple espresso by then, yo.
